PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

  1. Prepare a knowledgeable entry-level employee with technical skills and work habits necessary to perform effectively as a skilled professional medical assistant.
  2. Prepare students with knowledge in anatomy & physiology, clinical skills, phlebotomy, EKG, medical ethics, and administration. 
  3. Provide students with clinical activities that include patient identification and requisition, patient preparation, equipment selection and assembly, selection of various venipuncture procedures, attainment of vitals, and patient homecare advice.

ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Scholastic Level Exam (SLE), Passing of Entrance Exam
  • Form of Valid Official Picture ID
  • Proof of Medical Insurance 


EXTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS

  • Current Tuberculosis Screening Test (PPD)* within the past 6 months. If positive, students must have proof of negative chest x-ray within 2 years.
  • Vaccinations: Hepatitis B (within the last 20 years)
  • Current BLS/CPR Certification (American Heart Association Healthcare Provider) is required.
  • Background Check. Please note if you have any legal conviction in your record, this will be subject to review by the State of California Department of public health.

HEALTH CAREER COLLEGE

This program seeks to prepare students to become allied health professionals with skills to perform the duties of medical assistants in various clinical settings. The program includes eight and half months of didactic lectures and laboratory demonstrations, and one and half months of clinical externship. Lectures in the didactic portion includes courses in anatomy & physiology, infection control, phlebotomy, EKG, administrative computer applications, clinical procedures, medical ethics, as well as basic front and back office skills to ensure competency. Clinical externship will be held at our affiliated hospitals and laboratories as we provide hands-on training. Once successfully completing the assessment for their skills and competency in clinical externship,  the students will be able to sit for the national board exam. Participants who pass the exam will be enabled to apply for licenses for the following fields: Medical Assisting, Phlebotomy, and EKG. With these licenses, graduates can work in a medical office, laboratory, hospital, or in the Emergency Room (ER) as an ER technician.
